Tempus Two Prosecco with Orange slices and mimosas

How To Make The Best Mimosa

A Mimosa is a time-honoured tradition for New Year’s Day, bridal and baby showers, and pre-wedding bridal party drinks the world over. It’s also the perfect way to kick off a family brunch, ladies’ lunch, after work catch-ups, or pre-dinner canapes at sunset.

Serving up this classic cocktail at your next special occasion is a sure-fire way to impress your guests and create a fun and festive vibe… with basically zero effort.

WHAT IS THE BEST SPARKLING WINE FOR A MIMOSA?

Easy-to-make and delightful to drink, a Mimosa is traditionally served in a Champagne flute that is half filled with chilled orange juice and topped up with any type of sparkling wine you like.

The best-tasting Mimosas, however, use a sparkling wine that has a crisp, dry finish to offset the sweetness of the orange juice. A high-quality Blanc de Blancs, Cuvée or Prosecco are the perfect choice to make Mimosas – save your expensive French Champagne for another day.

In our recipe we recommend using Tempus Two Blanc de Blancs Sparkling. Our Prosecco is also a great choice if you prefer something slightly sweeter.

ARE MIMOSAS AND BUCK’S FIZZ THE SAME?

A Mimosa and Buck’s Fizz and very similar cocktails using the same two ingredients – sparkling wine and orange juice. But they differ when it comes to the ratio of bubbles to OJ. A Mimosa is made with equal parts sparkling wine and orange juice; while its slightly boozier British cousin, The Buck’s Fizz, is made with two-parts sparkling wine and one-part orange juice.

MIMOSA RECIPE TIPS

  • Keep it chill: The best Mimosas are made when everything is super cold at the time of serving. A little bit of extra prep to ensure your juice, sparkling wine, and even your glasses are chilled ahead of time will result in a deliciously refreshing Mimosa that your guests will love. Avoid using ice cubes as it will water down the cocktail and flatten the bubbles.
  • Flutes for fizz factor: Serving Mimosas in Champagne flutes really are the way to go. They look beautiful, they add to the air of celebration and, most importantly, they are designed to preserve the carbonation and stop your fizz from fizzling out too fast.
